The Past and The Present - My Story

This is supposed to be my first Post, so I will write about my favorite subject -
about MYSELF!

Well to begin with, I have spent all the 21 years of my life in Delhi, the (snobbish) capital city of India, where I was incidentally also born. I am a part of a small nuclear family of “five grown up” people.

While at school I was a decent (euphemism for average) student, good at extra curricular activities (how I loved bunking classes!!!).

I landed in Jawaharlal Nehru University [JNU, New Delhi, India] for my undergraduate studies right after my schooling. I registered for the German Language programme in the university, ‘a path less traveled’- as people used to say, after all, it was not the most sought after courses back then. My friends hardly knew about it, most of them registered themselves for the more traditional courses at Delhi University. I had come to a new place with a vague idea about my future.

Gradually, I settled down in this new place called JNU, took up a hostel and have been here since. I am now a student of the M.A. programme in German Studies and I m enjoying it here!!

More importantly, I have been exposed to an environment of enriching scholarship and a diverse world of ideas at the University. It has proved to be more than just a learning experience. Living with people who come from varied backgrounds, I have come to realize that the homogeneity, which we understand India to be, is but a superficial construct which downplays the complexity and varied ways of living life in this country. The interdisciplinary approach in JNU has also been extremely helpful in expanding my academic interests beyond my area of study and in educating me to perceive things in a larger context.

On a lighter note, I now have an amazing circle of friends to boast of……coming from Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Jammu, Kashmir. Bengal, Punjab, U.P., A.P., Kerela, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal, Orrisa etc………. from almost all parts of the country, and some have become extremely close and valuable.

Other than that, I lead a normal life of any 21 yr old…... u know with the highs and lows, the ups and downs , the agony and ecstasy!!!

and I just blogged...

PS: what an epiphany

Dylan puts it more eloquently
"we sit here stranded, though we're all doin' our best to deny it". I guess blogging is just a part of the denial... u know, trying to stay alive.
